About Us

Our Story

Hello! We are Kaitlin and Brendon Giesbrecht. We own and manage an egg farm on 160 acres near La Broquerie, Manitoba. Brendon's life-long experience in farming and Kaitlin's knowledge of small animal care make us a great team. Together we are passionate about always growing and improving, both personally and professionally. As parents to three small children, we are also busy homemakers and plan to grow our agricultural animal holdings when time allows.

When we started our farming journey together we knew we needed a dog and acquired one without much knowledge or research. We learned along the way, but there was little we could do to overcome the behavioural issues that were evidence of poor breeding. We hope to spare others a similar experience by breeding for the best possible qualities and behavioural traits, while eliminating common genetic disorders to avoid costly medical bills.

Ranch Home Labs was previously owned by another family member who wanted to see their good work continue, so we took in the dogs and quickly fell in love. Bear, a Charcoal Lab and Yerpie, a Silver Labrador Retriever, are smart and beautiful. They captivated us immediately with their gentle personalities and we knew wanted to continue to develop the stunning breed in Manitoba.

To complement our two females, we brought in Max - a high pedigree fox red Yellow Lab bred from hunting lines out of the United States - and with the three of them we have a dog family with the right qualifications to make outstanding family dogs.

As our family grows, we would be happy to partner with yours!

We are proud members of the Canadian Kennel Club and our dogs are genetically tested to ensure the health and well-being of our lineage.

Training & Philosophies

Just like raising kids or leading a team, dogs value clear communication and positive regard. They need to know what is expected of them and that they are safe to learn and follow through on their good behaviour.

As we work with puppies, we know what works well within their developmental stages to create the basis for a good family dog. We value socialization with other dogs and humans of all shapes and sizes, as well as clear training around feeding time and play time, to create a framework for successfully integrating a puppy from our family to yours.

We will provide you with a puppy training guide and resources to help you and your new family member. Check back here for more info!

What is a Lab?

When European settlers colonized Newfoundland and Labrador hundreds of years ago, they brought with them hardy dogs with keen senses and plenty of energy for hunting and surviving in nature. The breed evolved from there and has been known by several names such as Black Water Dog, the Lesser Newfoundland, and the St. John’s Dog. English sportsmen further developed the breed for fishing, duck and other wildlife hunting, crossing it with other sporting dogs, such as the Flat-coated Retriever, the Curly-coated Retriever and the Tweed Water Spaniel.

Soon, the Labrador Retriever became the most popular hunting dog in Great Britain and officially recognized by England's Kennel Club in 1903. Labs went on to be well known in police service, guide dog and other assistance animals. And today, they are considered an all-around great family dog!

Temperament: Gentle, but fun-loving, these intelligent dogs have the ability to learn hundreds of routines and commands. A popular pet, they are typically good with children and other animals. They are eager to please and regarded as a non-aggressive breed.

Activity Level: Labs require exercise and value training to stimulate their brains. They enjoy hiking, running, cycling, agility training and are especially fond of swimming. Oh, and retrieving! They will fetch all day!

Height/Weight: Approximate height can range from 22.5-24.5" tall (at the shoulder) and Labs can weigh 60-75 lbs.

Coat: Their double coat consists of a soft, warm inner layer and a water-repellent outer layer with hairs that are short, straight, dense
and smooth. Their coats shed twice per year.
